“The Human Crossing” excelled in its category and was awarded for its publically dedicated strategy, which resulted in increased awareness of road safety initiatives for road traffic accidents. With road safety at the core of the Volkswagen brand in the region, the accolade is testament to the brands’ commitment to highlighting road safety beyond the chassis of a car.
On this occasion, H.E. Dr. Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr, Director General of Smart Dubai, said: "As we at Smart Dubai are very keen on ensuring the safety of Dubai inhabitants, we have taken it upon ourselves to diffuse traffic awareness and promote the culture of dealing with public roads and vehicles while the highest degrees of security and safety are in mind for both pedestrians and drivers. Concurrently, we are keenly seeking to ensure that the next generation is armed with the smart city culture, which is primarily aimed at making people happy by maintaining their security and safety. on the other hand, we are strengthening our collaboration with the private sector to come with innovative solutions and develop vehicles suitable for smart living in the smartest city on earth."

The Human Crossing saw Volkswagen Middle East build a structure over a pedestrian crossing outside GEMS Wellington Academy – Silicon Oasis. A display on the structure highlighted the name of each child crossing below. The initiative aimed to create a human connection between pedestrians and drivers through reminding motorists that the person passing in front of them could be their friend, neighbor or family member.
Given the effectiveness and success of the campaign, Volkswagen Middle East is currently working on The Human Crossing 2.0 to further raise awareness regarding road safety in the region.

Beginning the first day of Ramadan this year, Volkswagen Middle East will donate meals for every customer test drive at Volkswagen dealerships region wide during this season of giving.
During the holy month each year, hundreds of potential customers visit Volkswagen showrooms region wide in search of the best offer. This year, Volkswagen is going beyond seasonal promotions, and will convert test drives each day into meals for the most vulnerable members of society until the end of the month.
The brand has connected with Emirates Red Crescent (Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Dubai, Kuwait and Qatar) and Dar Al Atta’a (Oman) to coordinate meals for those in need this Ramadan.
Andrew Savvas, Brand Director Volkswagen Middle East said, “Our local retail network partners will participate in traditional value added campaigns this season of giving however, we wanted to go one step further, in the spirit of Ramadan and give back to our wider community.”
He continued, “Volkswagen Middle East will convert the miles driven each day into donations for meals, for those who need it the most. At Volkswagen, we care about the people – it’s in our name - which is why we have chosen to engage with our local communities by converting each test drive into an opportunity to give back.”
The initiative will continue throughout the month of Ramadan, with meals delivered each day by the selected Charitable organisations in tents and mosques across the region.
