Presenting the Volkswagen group.The Volkswagen GroupThe Volkswagen Group with its headquarters in Wolfsburg is one of the world’s leading automobile manufacturers and the largest carmaker in Europe. In 2008, the Volkswagen Group delivered 6.23 million vehicles worldwide (2007: 6.19 million; +0.6 percent), thus setting a new record. In the European market, the Group’s brands delivered a total of 3.5 million vehicles. In Germany, the Group delivered 1.06 million vehicles (2007: 1.05 million; +0.4 percent) and therefore fared better than the overall market (-1.8 percent). At the same time, market share grew by 0.9 percentage points to 33.6 percent. In China, the Group sold 1.02 million vehicles (2007: 910,500; +12.5 percent), thus topping the million mark for the first time as planned. Brazil, the third largest market, made a noticeable contribution to the Group’s good performance with the number of vehicles delivered totaling 633,300 (2007: 581,300), representing an increase of 8.9 percent. 2008 saw also a new record for the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand reporting delivery of 3.67 million vehicles. The Volkswagen Group brandsThe Group is made up of nine brands from seven European countries: Volkswagen, Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, SEAT, Skoda, Scania and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. Each brand has its own character and operates as an independent entity on the market. The product range extends from low-consumption small cars to luxury class vehicles. In the commercial vehicle sector, the product offering spans pick ups, busses and heavy trucks. 48 manufacturing facilities in 19 countries worldwideThe Group operates 48 production plants in thirteen European countries and a further six countries in the Americas, Asia and Africa. Around the world, more than 360,000 employees produce almost 25,400 vehicles or are involved in vehicle-related services each working day. The Volkswagen Group sells its vehicles in more than 150 countries. It is the goal of the Group to offer attractive, safe and environmentally sound vehicles which are competitive on an increasingly tough market and which set world standards in their respective classes. |
